What We Do

Linear Plastics is able to turn ideas into 3D reality and in ultra-quick fashion — thanks to the company’s skills and resources with rapid tooling.

Typically fashioned in aluminium, these tools are sometimes manufactured for proof-of-concept or for short run prototype production. These rapid tools may then go on to be developed into steel moulding tools for full production capabilities.

Rapid Tooling begins in the CAD/CAM offices at Linear Plastics where desgin programmes such as Solidwork, EdgeCAM and MoldFlow can combined together to optimum effect.

In terms of metals and fabrication Linear can then deploy any number of milling, cutting, turning, griding and erosion techniques in order to produce the rapid tools.

Industries

Rapid tooling can be deployed for useage in any number of industrial sectors. Owing to issues of overall production cost these tools are often made for low-production runs of larger mouldings where aesthetic considerations may be low. Automotive, transport, building and construction are leading sectors in this regard.

Benefits

Emergencies and rapid time-to-market are often a leading factor in commissioning rapid tooling. Such tooling is also a hedge and mid-way step toward the greater cost of cutting steel for full production tooling.
